How a home is run matters as much as how it was built.
Living Stone is a small collection of homes across Cape Town, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch. Not a portfolio assembled to hit a number — a set of places we chose one at a time, and look after ourselves.
Most of what makes a stay good happens before you arrive and never announces itself. The linen was replaced before it looked worn. Someone noticed the tap. The heating works because it was serviced in April, not because you asked. That is the part we are actually in the business of.
What we hold to
Curation, not volume
We add a home when it is right, and we have said no to more than we have taken on. A collection you can hold in your head is one where every property has someone thinking about it.
The operations are the product
Cleaning schedules, inventory counts, appliance servicing, compliance certificates, the state of the linen cupboard. Unglamorous, tracked properly, and the reason a stay feels effortless.
Aesthetic integrity
Each house is finished to be itself rather than to photograph well. We would rather a room work at seven on a winter evening than look striking in a wide-angle shot.
Rooted in Cape Town
We live here. The recommendations are places we actually go, and when something needs attention someone is twenty minutes away, not managing it from another time zone.
